Rendr Board Member Receives Community Service and Leadership Award

Rendr Board Member Receives Community Service and Leadership Award

At the 29th Anniversary Fundraising Gala recently hosted by Homecrest Community Services, Rendr board member and internal medicine physician Henry Chen, MD, was honored with the “Community Service and Leadership Award” in recognition of his more than 30 years of dedication to the Asian community in New York City.

Throughout his decades of medical practice, Dr. Chen has long served Asian immigrant communities across Brooklyn, Manhattan Chinatown, and Staten Island. He has actively brought Rendr’s value-based care philosophy into the community by promoting preventive healthcare, encouraging disease screenings and chronic disease management, and regularly providing home visits for elderly patients with limited mobility.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Chen has held leadership roles in several major healthcare organizations, including the American Chinese American Physicians Society (ACAP), the Eastern Chinese American Physicians Association (ECAP), and SOMOS Community Care, helping drive transformation in community based healthcare systems. Over the years, he has received numerous honors, including the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, the Tribute to Excellence in Health Care Award presented by the United Hospital Fund, and recognition as one of the “Most Influential People in Healthcare” for five consecutive years.

During the award ceremony, Dr. Chen shared that the recognition not only honors his personal contributions, but also reflects the dedication of healthcare teams and community partners working together to serve immigrant communities. As a Chinese immigrant himself, he understands the challenges many immigrant families face in accessing quality healthcare services and social resources. He emphasized that healthcare organizations should strive to provide comprehensive, high quality, accessible, and affordable care for underserved populations.

The fundraising gala hosted by Homecrest Community Services brought together many community leaders and organization representatives. Other honorees included attorney Yan Lian Kuang-Maoga from Pitta & Baione Law Firm, Cecilia Huang, founder of Yin Ji Chang Fen New York, and Melody Zhao, founder of the Brooklyn based nonprofit organization Sharing Heart.
