Staten Island’s 122nd Precinct Welcomes New Chinese American Commanding Officer with Community Luncheon

Captain Bailey Goon, the newly appointed Chinese American commanding officer of the NYPD’s 122nd Precinct on Staten Island, officially assumed his role last month. To celebrate his appointment, members of the local Chinese community delivered lunch to the precinct on the 25th, sharing a meal with officers to mark the occasion.
Organizations participating in the welcome luncheon included Rendr, the Staten Island Chinese Association, and the Chinese-American Planning Council. Dr. Zhinian Chen of Rendr extended his congratulations to Captain Goon and noted that Rendr has been expanding its services to Staten Island in recent years as the Chinese population continues to grow. The organization currently operates two clinics on the island—one located at 2455 Hylan Boulevard, directly across from the precinct, and another at 150 Bay Street.
Dai Riji, president of the Staten Island Chinese Association, highlighted that Staten Island has become an increasingly popular destination for Chinese residents in recent years. He expressed strong support for having a Chinese American commanding officer at the 122nd Precinct and emphasized that the association will continue to strengthen collaboration with the precinct to enhance communication between the police and the Chinese community, while working together to reduce crime.
Captain Goon expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome from the community. He said he is honored to have been entrusted by NYPD leadership to serve as the commanding officer of the 122nd Precinct and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents on Staten Island. He placed particular emphasis on encouraging Chinese community members to speak up and seek help when needed, noting that open communication allows the police to better understand and address community concerns.
With 20 years of service in the NYPD, Captain Goon, now 44, assumed leadership of the 122nd Precinct last month. The precinct covers Staten Island’s Mid-Island area, which has seen a growing influx of Chinese residents in recent years. The area, particularly New Dorp Lane, has become a hub for Chinese businesses and is increasingly recognized as a developing Chinatown on Staten Island.
