VNS Health Kicks Off Spring with Queens Community Celebration

For older adults in Flushing, staying connected to their community can make all the difference — and VNS Health is making sure they have every opportunity to do just that.
PIX11 visited the VNS Health Flushing Community Center at 136-52 39th Ave for a special Spring Open House, a free community event designed to bring older adults together, celebrate the season, and connect neighbors with the health resources they need to thrive.
VNS Health is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit home and community-based health care organizations, with more than 133 years serving the New York City metropolitan area. Their Community Centers in Flushing, Sunset Park, and Manhattan are specifically designed to reach older Chinese-American adults who may face language or cultural barriers when seeking health care.
“We’ve been working across the NYC Metropolitan area to help improve the health and well-being of New Yorkers for more than 133 years,” said Teresa Lin, VP of Cultural Market Development at VNS Health. “We care for people at all stages in life.”
Beyond special events like this one, VNS Health community centers offer free social services, English classes, educational seminars, and arts and crafts programs — open to anyone who walks in.
For those approaching or already in their Medicare years, VNS Health offers a range of Medicare Advantage plans that go well beyond standard coverage. Members can access benefits that help offset the cost of prescription drugs, groceries, home utilities, dental care, hearing aids, vision, foot care, acupuncture, and more — including specialized plans for people who need support with daily activities to remain safely in their homes.
Rendr, the largest primary care and multi-specialty medical group in New York City serving the Chinese community, partners with VNS Health to deliver high-quality, culturally competent care. With over 1,300 providers and more than 1.3 million patient visits recorded last year, Rendr was founded specifically to address the healthcare disparities faced by Chinese Americans.
VNS Health also maintains Neighborhood Offices in Flatbush and Far Rockaway, and their Community Outreach vans can be found at local health fairs and events throughout the year. You don’t need to be a member to visit — all community locations are free and open to the public.
